SDFA Shotgun-Skeet and Defensive

Course Outline: 
    

  • Introduction & Review of Safety Procedures.
  • Brief Equipment Discussion, Accessories & Terminology for Skeet and Tactical Activities.
  • Sight in and Patterning
  • Skeet Activities:
    • Grip & Stance for Optimal Shotgun Effectiveness for High/Low House Clay Birds.
    • Scoring, Rules and Techniques for Handling Stations 1 through 8.
    • Multiple Rounds of Skeet with Coaching at Each of the Stations.
  • Defensive Activities:
    • Grip & Stance for Optimal Shotgun Effectiveness.
    • Administrative, Combat and Speed Reload.
    • Functionality Drills & Malfunction Clearances.
    • Cruiser Safe, Cruiser Ready, Downloads and Changeovers.

Duration: 1 day / 8 hours

Equipment Requirements:  

  • Shotgun Suitable for Skeet and/or Tactical Use. Participants may bring two if they wish to use a specific one for Skeet and a different one for Tactical.
  • Shotgun Round Count: Skeet (125) and Tactical (125). All Rounds are number 7.5 or 8.0
  • Caddies and/or side saddle for the tactical shotgun platform are highly recommended but not required.
  • Wrap around eye wear.
  • Ear plugs and/or ear muffs.
  • Footwear suitable for fast movement.
  • Cases for all firearms.
  • Pen and a 1 subject notebook.
  • Lawn chair and bug spray are highly recommended.
  • Sunscreen, hat or baseball cap and knee/elbow pads are recommended.
  • Snacks, drinks, lunch, etc. are highly recommended.
Notes
  • Instructors will have two fully setup Tactical Shotguns on hand to demonstrate all skills, drills and exercises.

Additional Pertinent Information:
  • Please thoroughly clean, lube and inspect your firearm(s) prior to coming to class.
  • Please keep your guns and all ammunition in your vehicle until you are directed to retrieve them. For your safety and the safety of everyone, NO LIVE AMMUNITION will be allowed in the classroom at any time under any circumstances.
  • If you carry a firearm for personal protection, you must leave that in your vehicle during the class.
  • All guns must be cased for transportation to/from the range.
  • Please plan appropriately for the weather. We will be outdoors for several hours. Footwear that fully encloses your feet is required.
