SDFA Defensive Pistol 2

Course Outline:
  • Introduction, Safety Review and Equipment Discussion
  • Brief Review of Functionality, Reloading and Malfunction Clearance Techniques
  • Dynamic Shooting Drills & Stances
  • Shooting on the Move in all Directions (Forward, Backward, Laterals, Off line of Attach and Adverse Angles)
  • Advanced Shooting Drills for Fast Target Acquisition, Transitions and Bilateral Manipulations. 
  • Timed Drills, Stages and Qualifications
  • Tactical Live Fire Movements & Close Quarter Operations 
  • Single Hand Techniques
  • Individual and Team Tactics
Enrichment Module: This 45 min lunch time module is focused on the proper selection of tactical equipment/gear for competitive and/or recreational shooting applications. Participants are given a brief description and demonstration of various potential selections.

Equipment Requirements:
  • Pistol or revolver with a strong side outside the waistband holster and belt. (Definition: a Strong side holster is a holster that wears on your right hip if you are right hand or your left hip if you are left handed.)
  • Minimum: 5 Pistol Magazines or 5 revolver speedloaders
  • 450 Rounds of Ammunition.
  • Belt mounted Mag holders for your Pistol Mags.
  • Wrap around eye wear.
  • Ear plugs and/or ear muffs.
  • Hydration system.
  • Footwear suitable for fast movement.
  • 5 Rounds of dummy ammunition.
  • Cases for all firearms.
  • Knee, Elbow pads, and hat are recommended.
  • Pen and a 1 subject notebook.
  • Lawn chair and bug spray are highly recommended.
  • Small Flashlight.
  • Sunscreen, hat or baseball cap and knee/elbow pads are recommended.
  • Snacks, drinks, lunch, etc. are highly recommended.

  • If the training location is in NY state and you are bringing a pistol, you must have a NY state valid pistol permit or be between the age of 14 and 20 years and accompanied by a parent/guardian that has a valid NY state pistol permit. If the training is outside NY state, you must adhere to all the laws and regulations governing the possession of firearms in the state.
  • Recommended NRA Basic Pistol, and/or NRA Personal Protection in the Home or permission of the Instructor.
Additional Pertinent Information:
  • Please thoroughly clean, lube and inspect your firearm(s) prior to coming to class.
  • Please keep your guns and all ammunition in your vehicle until you are directed to retrieve them. For your safety and the safety of everyone, NO LIVE AMMUNITION will be allowed in the classroom at any time under any circumstances.
  • If you carry a firearm for personal protection, you must leave that in your vehicle during the class.
  • All guns must be cased for transportation to/from the range.
  • Please plan appropriately for the weather. We will be outdoors for several hours. Footwear that fully encloses your feet is required.
